Chapter 29 Crushing
Chapter 29 Crushing
"A hero is someone you fight!"
The ground beneath Lucia's feet suddenly shattered, cracks spreading for dozens of meters, trees around her fell, and dust filled the air.
So fast!
In Willis's perception, the moment Lucia's magic ignited, the succubus's figure vanished, replaced by a dark red blade flashing across his face, the sharp edge almost touching his skin.
Relying on his sense of killing intent and fighting instinct, Willis instinctively raised his sword to block. With a loud 'bang,' Willis was sent flying like a cannonball. The sword was pressed against his face by the immense force, crushing his nasal bone.
Blood blurred his vision, and excruciating pain stimulated his brain.
But Willis's mind didn't falter for a moment. He used the force of the impact to quickly move away from the front lines and adjust his posture.
After he pierced through the five giant trees and landed firmly, the injuries on his face had completely healed.
Unless he's hit by a thief's special spell like last time, and he's nearly exhausted, Willis's healing magic combined with his perfect physique will be enough to keep him at his strongest in battle, preventing injuries from hindering his fight.
However, Willis showed no joy, for an armored fist, imbued with a reddish-black magical power, was about to strike his cheek.
Willis struggled to react with his sword, but before he could unleash any of his skills, he was once again blasted away, sword and all.
This time he was smarter. He didn't pay attention to the collapsed nose at first, but instead unleashed a wide-range fire spell in an attempt to block Lucia's attack route.
But against Lucia, who can ignore fatal attacks, this would be tantamount to making things worse.
Magic gathered on her wings, and with a gentle flap, terrifying acceleration propelled Lucia through the sea of fire at a speed so fast it was almost indistinguishable from a blur.
Another punch landed on his face. This time, Willis didn't even have time to swing his sword. His left cheek was dented, and a sickening cracking sound came from it.
To avoid accidentally killing Willis, after the first tentative strike, Lucia simply put away her weapon and unleashed primal violence on Willis's face.
Saying she would beat him so badly his own mother wouldn't recognize him, Lucia's first target was naturally his face.
"The bonus from this perfect body is really quite substantial..."
As the master of the dungeon, Caesar is able to perfectly monitor Willis's actual situation on the battlefield.
He discovered that Willis, despite taking two punches from Lucia, had not suffered any significant structural damage.
The two have a 30-point difference in their pure physical stats. Converted to actual stats, under ideal conditions...
Lucia should be able to smash Willis like a watermelon with ease.
But the reality is far different.
Even with the added boost of her dragon-like blood energy, Lucia couldn't be crushed like a chicken; it just goes to show how overpowered her hero talent is.
But it doesn't matter, if one punch isn't enough, just throw a few more. No matter how strong Willis is, he can't beat someone who's cheating.
Having taken the third punch head-on, Willis had abandoned the magical enhancements to other parts of his body and focused on protecting his face.
He used his mental detection magic in place of his shattered eyes, but he still couldn't detect Lucia's speed at all.
This is not a difference in skill or talent.
Numerical values, powerful numerical values that cannot be surpassed.
Throughout history, heroes have always been warriors who primarily engage in physical combat. Although they are proficient in various spells, they are only proficient and can only play a supporting role in battle, unable to compare with true great mages.
In the past, Willis relied on his powerful numerical attributes to overcome obstacles and defeat enemies of higher levels.
But this time, he miscalculated; Lucia's stats were higher than his.
When the fourth punch came, Willis tried to pick up the mechanism he had abandoned. He built up defensive magic on his face and thrust his sword at Lucia's leg, trying to scare her away with a wound-for-wounds strategy.
After all, if he dies, he loses one-tenth of his life force and returns to the surface, while if a monster in the dungeon dies, it is truly dead and its injuries will not heal.
This is also why Willis failed to aim for Lucia's vital areas.
To everyone's surprise, Lucia wasn't afraid at all. She didn't dodge, and her defensive magic shattered with a crack, barely having any effect. Willis still took the full force of the punch.
His attack was ineffective; Lucia's armor was no mere decoration. Under the surge of magic, Willis's sword futilely pierced through the air, sending sparks flying before flying backward along with its master once more.
Willis has lost count of how many trees he has smashed through.
He took punch after punch, and even considered activating the future vision that he had been longing for but had never triggered, in order to turn the tide of the battle.
But in the end, his face swelled up like a pig's head, and the magic couldn't even form a circuit in his head to strengthen his body.
At this point, Lucia stopped the pursuit, giving Willis a little breathing room.
He had many lethal methods that were useless, but the succubus who beat him also held back. Willis knew that if Lucia hadn't shown mercy from the beginning, he would already be back on the surface.
"Thanks…"
A hoarse, broken syllable came from the rotting flesh on Willis's head. He slowly got up and, in a few breaths, compressed and reshaped the grotesque mass of flesh and broken bones.
Willis's handsome face returned, though it was somewhat pale.
To Caesar's surprise, even after such humiliation, Willis showed no resentment or anger, only bitterness and even a sense of apology.
"I lost."
Willis said, "I'm just not as good as them."
"And, I'm sorry, leader of the succubus race, our battle is inherently unequal. Here, I have an infinite margin for error and can risk my life, but you cannot."
"I originally thought I would hold back in the fight, but when I was suppressed just now, I even had the urge to kill."
Willis suddenly opened his arms and made a hugging gesture upwards.
"Hero Willis, I swear to the God of Light that if I am certain that succubi can become companions with humans, I will grant the succubus chieftain one thing, provided it does not violate my own principles. If I break this oath, may my body be destroyed and my soul suffer the eternal agony of being burned by fire."
"not good!!!"
Just as Willis finished making his vow, Caesar suddenly felt something cast its gaze, piercing through the underground city's defenses and landing on Willis.
His soul turned cold, and he hid in the secret room, not daring to move. He deliberately cut off all control over the underground city, fearing that the owner of his gaze would discover something amiss.
A moment later, the gaze left, but Caesar still dared not make a move, and it took him a while to log back in.
"Damn Willis, why are you having this epileptic seizure all of a sudden?!"
