Chapter 104 Kaiyang's Aid
Chapter 104 Kaiyang's Aid
In a beautifully decorated upscale dessert shop in the city center, Noah and Kaiyang sat facing each other in a corner.
On the table were two huge and fancy parfaits, piled high with ice cream, fruit, cream and chocolate sauce.
Noah was holding a spoon, savoring the dessert in front of her, spoonful by spoonful. With each bite of ice cream, she closed her eyes in enjoyment, a happy expression on her face.
Kaiyang, sitting opposite her, seemed rather uninterested. She merely stirred the top layer of cream with her spoon a couple of times, took a couple of casual bites, and kept her eyes glued to Noah.
Finally, Kaiyang spoke first—
"You seem much more at ease than I imagined."
"Hmm?" Noah opened her eyes from her reverie. "Really? I think I'm already in a pretty mess right now."
Despite saying that, Noah's tone revealed no trace of the embarrassment of being "hunted down by the future world."
"A truly desperate person wouldn't be in your current state." Kaiyang's gaze fell on the almost empty parfait in front of her. "Are you managing to handle things on your end?"
"The situation isn't as bad as you think." Noah put down her spoon, picked up a tissue to wipe her mouth, and said, "I also have quite a few 'backup plans' on my end."
"Really?" Kaiyang also picked up a spoon, scooped up a spoonful of ice cream and put it in his mouth. "Speaking of which, I need to apologize to you."
However, Kaiyang said this without any apology in his tone, "The best result I could get in the parliamentary vote was 'neutrality'."
"Oh?" A meaningful smile appeared on Noah's face. "Does Lord Kaiyang mean that, if possible, you would actually prefer to support me?"
"No." Kaiyang shook his head. "If conditions allowed, I personally would prefer to declare war directly on that so-called 'future.' Unfortunately, such a proposal is unlikely to be passed in the council, and it is not in the interest of most people in this world."
These words truly surprised Noah.
"I thought that you, Lord Kaiyang, would be the one who most despises uncontrollable individuals like me who 'don't tell the truth.' I never expected you to be a proponent of war?"
"My feelings for you aren't that strong," Kaiyang said honestly. "It's just that the 'future messenger' and the arrogant 'future' behind her that annoy me more."
"A threat should be eradicated in its nascent stage. Letting those fools in the Council of Seven negotiate and compromise with the other side will only nurture a tiger that will eventually become a threat. It's a pity they will never understand this principle."
In Noah's past timeline, after "that incident," Noah knew Kaiyang quite well. These words were likely spoken out of personal emotion. If it were for the greater good, Kaiyang shouldn't have been so radical.
"Well then, Lord Kaiyang," Noah picked up her spoon again and began scavenging the last bit of ice cream in the parfait, "you specifically asked me out today, surely it wasn't just to explain the parliamentary vote results to me? Someone of your rank must be very busy, your time must be very precious."
"That's right." Kaiyang nodded, finally getting to the point, "I'm here because I have some 'friends' who want to help you."
"Oh?"
"The Civil Defense Bureau's decision only binds the organization itself. However, some of my wild magical girl 'friends' are very interested in you and can provide you with intelligence, supplies, and even necessary military support."
"Of course, these are all their personal actions and have nothing to do with me or the Human Defense Bureau. After all, we have absolutely no way to control wild magical girls out there."
After Kaiyang finished speaking, he stared intently at Noah, waiting for her reply.
However, Noah let out a soft laugh—
"Lord Kaiyang, do you really think I can't see through your true intentions?"
Noah pushed the empty parfait forward and touched her chin with one hand.
"On the initial issue, 'Capture Noah,' you abstained from voting, right?"
Kaiyang remained expressionless, calmly listening to Noah continue speaking.
"You don't want me to fall into the hands of 'the future,' but you also don't want to protect me, because you know I can't be your pawn. Although I can cooperate with you, in your eyes I'm also an unstable factor, right?"
"So, you'd rather I fight that powerful 'future' to the death."
"How could that be?" Kaiyang maintained his calm expression. "If you can face the future alone, why should we be afraid of them?"
"Because of the cost," Noah smiled. "If war really breaks out, this era will need to mobilize, right? The financial, material, and human resources consumed will be enormous, and casualties will be unavoidable."
"It's much better to remain neutral. I don't need to pay any price to maintain a 'low-intensity' war. The 'future world' can't possibly send all its magical girls here just to hunt me down."
"Then, I received support from some random wild magical girls, which significantly reduced the combat power of the future world. Even if they had ulterior motives, their strength was greatly weakened."
"If I win, you'll have resolved a major crisis with minimal cost. If I lose, you'll only have lost someone who never belonged to your world."
"Regardless of the final outcome, the Civil Defense Bureau will reap the benefits. Am I right?"
Kaiyang did not deny it.
To be honest, this was indeed the idea of "Councilor Kaiyang".
However, if she were to act as "Magical Girl Kaiyo," she would much rather declare war directly on the future world. Therefore, her initial stern statement wasn't exactly a lie.
"So, now that you understand my purpose," Kaiyang leaned forward slightly, "do you still want to accept my 'assistance'?"
"Why not?" Noah crossed her arms and leaned back. "Although it's about using each other, at this stage, our relationship is more like a mutually beneficial one."
"Even an ally with ulterior motives is much better than fighting alone. So of course I'll accept this 'aid'."
"Very good." Kaiyang nodded, not surprised at all by the result. "My friend will try to contact you soon."
Then, Kaiyang stood up, seemingly not intending to linger any longer. "So, do you have any crises that you need my help with?"
Noah looked up at Kaiyang, who had stood up, and then looked down at the empty parfait in front of her.
"Of course."
Noah's expression suddenly became extremely serious—
"My current problem is that I haven't had enough. Can I have another parfait ice cream?"
