Chapter 31 A Distant Morning
Chapter 31 A Distant Morning
When Shen Zixin woke up in the morning, she realized that the alarm clock had not rung again.
He opened his eyes and looked at the empty space beside the bed—it seemed that Noah, just like the day before yesterday, had turned off the alarm on his phone when she got up early.
This is the second time; I guess this time... it's because she's making breakfast again.
Well, it's Sunday today, so there's no need to cook too early.
Shen Zixin still hoped that Noah wouldn't do such things again, otherwise it would disrupt his biological clock. He still wanted to maintain his habit of waking up at 7 a.m.
Shen Zixin reached for her phone on the bedside table and glanced at the time—7:25.
Not bad, I didn't get up too late. I guess Noah has already made breakfast by now.
Shen Zixin got out of bed and strolled into the living room.
Sure enough, breakfast was already laid out on the table.
Noah sat quietly in the chair.
Although she had made breakfast, she didn't eat it. Noah just stared blankly at the table, her expression blank.
That profile was beautiful no matter how you looked at it, but at this moment it was covered with frost and melancholy.
Hearing the sound of Shen Zixin's bedroom door open, Noah slowly raised her head, a smile appearing on her face—
Good morning, Zixin.
Her voice was light and natural, with a touch of the crispness unique to young girls, and there was absolutely no sign of anything unusual about it.
However, as Shen Zixin looked at her, an indescribable sorrow welled up in her heart.
He walked to the dining table and sat down in the chair next to Noah.
"Do you... have something planned for you today?"
Shen Zixin asked, trying her best to keep her tone steady, but her voice was much lower than she had expected.
"Of course!" Noah maintained her smile.
The fragile soul that was revealed in the darkness last night seems like just a dream.
"After all, I still have to save the world. So I probably won't be going home for lunch."
The phrase "save the world" came out of her mouth, but at this moment it was filled with self-mockery.
Although her smile seemed natural, Shen Zixin could sense that it was a superficial performance.
According to Noah's statement last night, no matter what she does now, she can't get back everything she's lost.
So what exactly is Noah persisting for? And why is she smiling like that?
Seeing Noah like this, Shen Zixin could no longer bear the guilt and helplessness that had been suppressed all night.
"Noah, you—"
He wanted to ask.
He wanted to ask her if she was alright.
He wanted to ask her if she needed help.
He wanted to tell her that even if he couldn't change the future, at least here, she wasn't alone.
however--
"Oh dear! Looks like I have to get going!"
As if sensing Shen Zixin's thoughts, Noah suddenly stood up, interrupting his question.
Then, before Shen Zixin could react, she strode quickly toward the door as if fleeing—
Remember to eat breakfast!
She turned around and left behind a final, radiant smile, as bright as the sun.
boom.
The door closed.
She was cut off from view, and so were all of Shen Zixin's words.
Is she... avoiding me?
Shen Zixin stared blankly at the breakfast on the table, completely lacking any appetite.
Sure enough, after realizing that everything she had done could not ultimately save the world that belonged to her, it felt as if something inside her had shattered.
But when did she find out?
Logically, she should have already accepted this cruel reality on the night she rescued Xiaoling.
However, for the next two days, she buried this despair deep in her heart, and it was impossible to tell that she had any emotions because of this incident.
Noah's change only began last night after she chose to confess this matter to herself.
In other words, even though she knew about this before, she kept it buried deep in her heart, bearing the weight of it all alone, and forcing herself to play the role of "Noah" in front of everyone.
So, after showing herself that despair last night, did she allow herself to reveal even a tiny bit of vulnerability?
Or does she feel that she no longer needs to pretend in front of "herself"?
Last night, however, I missed what might have been my only chance because of that ridiculous hesitation and cowardice stemming from the identity of "she is my future self".
That opportunity to truly enter her heart and share her pain.
So next time...
Shen Zixin slowly clenched her fist.
If there's a next time...
This absolutely cannot continue.
This is not for any grand goal of "saving the world".
I just don't want to see that "self" from the future wearing that fake smile, as if the whole world has abandoned me.
So, I need to take the initiative next time.
I feel like... the best time for both parties to show their true feelings is in bed, right?
However, according to the agreement between Noah and He Yuran that they would take turns sleeping with each other for one day, the next time He Yuran would have to share a bed with Noah would have to wait until tomorrow night.
What should I say to break through Noah's defenses at that time?
As Shen Zixin pondered, she walked to the bathroom and began washing up.
After washing my face, I felt a little more refreshed.
But there's no use thinking about it now, let's focus on planning what we need to do today.
Shen Zixin returned to the dining table and began to eat breakfast. Today, Noah made fried eggs with ham and sauce, and it tasted just as delicious as the last time she made them.
After finishing his own breakfast, he looked at the other three breakfasts on the table—clearly prepared for Xiaoling and his older sister, and one for Noah herself, but she ran away without eating it.
Oh, has Noah forgotten that breakfast doesn't need to be made so early on Saturdays and Sundays...? Even if it's made, the two of them won't get up early anyway. By the time they get up, the food will be cold.
Then, Shen Zixin took out her phone and began to think about her plans for the day.
He remembered Noah's "words" from last night very clearly—
"If... there really comes a day when I need to rely on 'myself', then perhaps... that would be a good ending."
Yes, he wanted to be someone she could "rely on." Therefore, he sought ways to improve his own strength so that he could stand by her side in the future.
If I don't have enough strength and can only provide her with emotional value, then I'll be in a really bad situation.
So Shen Zixin decided to simply study magic properly today.
However, there is another problem – there is a risk of being discovered if you practice at home.
Although I can hide in my bedroom and shouldn't be discovered by Xiaoling or my older sister, wouldn't my cultivation generate magical fluctuations? Then Xiaoling would definitely sense it…
After much thought, Shen Zixin came up with a location—
