Chapter 86 Chen Yuan Meets Japanese Language
Chapter 86 Chen Yuan Meets Japanese Language
The volcano at dusk was full of mystery. Soon, more than half an hour later, the Tianxing slowly came to a stop, and then everyone began to disembark under the guidance of the staff.
The sight of a cruise ship docking at the port is nothing new for the residents of Kagoshima.
As a small town at the southernmost tip of the island nation, it is particularly popular with tourists. Compared to the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, it is just like the countryside.
Yet, many cruise ships pass through this rural area.
However, to the residents of Kagoshima today, this huge cruise ship seems somewhat dim, probably because the lights on many floors are off.
At the valley harbor, Chen Yuan followed the group out of the cabin and suddenly found that the view was much wider.
His gaze swept across Kagoshima, where neon lights gradually illuminated the night, and the distant volcano became only a faint outline.
The next moment, Chen Yuan suddenly froze, his gaze sweeping around the port. Only when the staff's voices rang out did he put aside his strange feelings and head to the staff to gather.
Everyone was very excited and looked around. Although the island nation was not far from them, only a few hours' flight away, none of the people present had ever been there before.
They all have the financial means to travel abroad, but unfortunately, most of the time it's not because of time constraints.
The staff gave some instructions and then led everyone through the immigration process.
After a series of checks, the crew successfully entered the country and then headed to the parking lot.
Along the way, Chen Yuan looked around, somewhat bewildered.
"What's wrong?" Xu Zhiyi noticed Chen Yuan's unusual behavior and asked.
"Can you understand the island language?" Chen Yuan asked hesitantly.
"I can understand some of the characters, since they came from here, but I can't understand most of them," Xu Zhiyi said. She is fluent in three languages, but the island language is not among them.
"Oh, I see." Chen Yuan muttered, feeling shocked. He realized that he could actually understand the island language.
That's strange, when did you learn it?
Chen Yuan's memories surged as he searched for related recollections. Soon, he found them and was immediately taken aback. "Holy crap!" he muttered to himself.
Unexpectedly, he was a die-hard fan of Japanese anime during his university years.
At the time, there was an elective foreign language composition course, and he chose Japanese music, for which he even went to learn the Japanese language seriously.
Goodness...
Chen Yuan was somewhat surprised, as he was, in a sense, a genius in language.
He is fluent in both English and the island language.
At least in the future I can say I'm fluent in multiple languages, which would be a small advantage for me, right?
However, he was too embarrassed to say it out loud, so he simply pretended not to understand.
They were picked up and dropped off in several minibuses. The ten of them squeezed onto one minibus and set off first to their accommodation for this trip.
Along the way, everyone was guessing what kind of place it would be.
"hotel?"
"That's unlikely, since we haven't stayed in a hotel the whole way here."
"Most of them are guesthouses, because only guesthouses are easy to book, and when you come to an island nation, guesthouses are definitely the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to accommodation, right?"
"That makes sense!"
Everyone agrees with this statement; the charm of a guesthouse in an island nation is definitely not to be missed.
As the car entered the town, everyone's eyes turned to the outside of the car window.
As Chen Yuan watched the receding scene before him, the Japanese language was no different from Chinese to him; he understood its meaning at a glance.
Surprisingly, the architecture in the island nation was not much different from that in China.
The towns here are similar to county towns in China. Perhaps because of the nearby volcano, there are not many tall buildings. The taller buildings are only about ten stories high.
Before long, the bus crossed a street that was particularly bright compared to other places, and there were quite a few people on the street.
"This should be the downtown commercial street," Lu Zeyan said, pointing to a luxury brand store not far away. "I didn't expect there to be a luxury store here."
As everyone looked around, the area was indeed much brighter, clearly the commercial street in the city center.
After crossing this street, the scenery on both sides became dim again, with scattered lights from the buildings corresponding to the streetlights.
Chen Yuan looked to the other side and saw the Tianxing in the direction of the port. At this moment, this behemoth could be clearly seen even from a distance.
"Tick-tock!"
"Tick-tock!"
Suddenly, a rain began to fall, and raindrops pounded against the car window, blurring the view.
"What a terrible day. It's been raining for a week, and it just started raining as soon as the guests arrived," the driver muttered as he turned on the windshield wipers.
"Did the driver say something?" Zhang Jianjian was closest to the driver and, upon hearing him speak, assumed the driver was going to tell them something.
"Did you understand?"
"Now that we're in an island nation, how will we communicate during filming?"
"We're doomed. We've been sold out and probably don't even know how to call for help."
Everyone was talking at once, but the driver couldn't understand them, and they couldn't understand the driver either. They were all just staring blankly at each other.
"He said it hadn't rained for a week, but it started raining as soon as we arrived," Chen Yuan said calmly, translating the driver's words.
For a moment, the scene fell into dead silence.
"No way, Chen Yuan, you can speak Japanese?" Jiang Yichen asked in surprise.
"Wow, that's impressive! How's your English?" Zhang Jianjian asked.
Everyone was surprised by Chen Yuan's sudden remark. They hadn't expected that someone among them could speak Japanese, and that he had kept it a secret until now.
"Not bad, I only know these two foreign languages," Chen Yuan said.
"..."
"Only know two subjects? Wow, it's amazing if you can do even one. I can only listen to English, and my spoken English is terrible," Jiang Yichen exclaimed.
Chen Yuan speaks Japanese, and everyone immediately felt like they had found a pillar of support, so they asked him to sit in the front and act as the translator.
"Ask the driver where we're going," Zhang Jianjian said.
"..." Chen Yuan never imagined he'd be working as a translator. He paused, somewhat afraid he wouldn't be able to speak, then tentatively asked, "Driver, where are we going?"
He was surprised himself when he said it; he hadn't expected it to come out so naturally.
"oh?"
"This guest speaks our island language, that's wonderful! We're almost there, our final destination is Sakurayama Onsen Ryokan," the driver said.
"The driver said we're almost there. Our accommodation is called Sakurayama Onsen Ryokan," Chen Yuan translated and told everyone.
"A hot spring inn, wow!"
"Great! Could you ask the driver if the place we just passed was downtown Kagoshima?" Lin Wanxing said.
"....."
Before arriving at the hotel, Chen Yuan acted as the translator, serving as a bridge for communication between the two sides, until the car drove into a bamboo forest and stopped in front of the hotel.
Seeing this, everyone got up and got off the bus, eager to soak in the rain.
